Hoshino Therapy

Hoshino Therapy® is the art and science of hand therapy developed by Professor Tomezo Hoshino, born in Japan in 1910.  As a doctor of acupuncture he found that in cases of arthrosis, pain and disability associated with soft tissue aging, acupuncture could offer only temporary relief. He originated a unique therapy that integrates the principles of acupuncture with the art of hand therapy.

The Need for Hoshino Therapy®

Today more and more people suffer from painful and disabling conditions that affect the moving parts of the body. These problems, which arise with advancing age, are to a great extent influenced by our sedentary life style and habits of poor posture and inadequate exercise. We develop uncoordinated movement patterns that cause muscles, tendons, and ligaments to contract and harden. This can result in pain and restricted movement.  This process of hardening or aging of soft tissues is called arthrosis, and it is this condition that underlies soft tissue disorders such as bursitis, tendinitis, back pain, and muscular tension. When left uncorrected for a period of many years, such conditions may eventually lead to degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis and spinal disc disorders.

While symptoms of arthrosis most often appear after ages of 40 or 50, excessive use or misuse of body parts, such as in strenuous sports and work related stress, can also cause aging of soft tissues in younger age groups. Persons of almost any age whose body movement is restricted or impaired and who have not found relief in conventional forms of treatment, should seriously consider Hoshino Therapy®.

Bob oppenheimer

Bob has designed his approach to massage therapy after 20 years in the profession.  With more than 2,000 hours of formal education in bodywork, Bob has put his skills together to create a method he calls Postural Balance and Realignment.

As we use our bodies, we tend to limit our motions to accommodate our livelihood and our athletic interests.  This results in asymmetric strengths and limited range of motion.  The elasticity of muscle groups can be regained when their fibers are balanced against each other.  This approach of finding the root cause of an issue creates ease of movement at every joint.

Looking at the body in this way results in a balance from head to toe that improves posture, invigorates muscle strength, and regains flexibility.  This allows a client to realize their fullest physical potential in their body's motion.

Whether recovering from a joint replacement, or tuning a healthy body for the next athletic endeavor, this focused massage work will help each client see the world through ease of motion.

In 1998, I was invited by Patrick Kocica, a longtime friend since high school, to begin an apprenticeship program to learn Hoshino Therapy. I studied under his father, Bodhi Kocica, and mother Dashi Kocica at the Hoshino Therapy Clinic in Miami, Florida for a total of 5 years. Another 5 years of experience would be required before I could proceed to receive additional training.

In 2010, I moved to Colorado and began practicing in the Vail Valley area.  Due to the extended amount of adventure sports (from skiing, snowboarding to standup paddling and mountain biking), injury is prevalent! Through the application of Hoshino therapy, the vast majority of my clients have received relief and a solution to their pain and bio-mechanical conditions.

Since 2012 I have been in the Vail Valley, working as a Hoshino Therapist, first on a local and touristic clientele, then at Simply Massage in Vail and Avon. Also, in 2015, I began working at VIMG (Vail Integrated Medicine Group) in Edwards, CO.
